Council Spotlight on Venezuela

The latest unrest and election results in Venezuela have inspired the U.S. to apply sanctions in the economically distraught nation's petroleum sector. As change and challenge in Venezuela tops broadcast and print news, we will present a Latin American affairs specialist, Christopher Sabatini, editor of LatinAmericaGoesGlobal.org. His Sept. 13 program focuses on the rescue of Venezuela and how the crisis affects American and regional relationships. For background, visit Sabatini's site and news organizations such as the BBC. North Korea: A Hinge Moment?

Is the North Korea situation about to be a positive turning point in the U.S. relationship with China or is a "catastrophic military conflict" in our future? David Ignatius, the Washington Post foreign affairs columnist (and the Council's speaker on November 29), examines the possibilities after the "amping up" of rhetoric in the fact of missile threats and vows of violence.  Tickets to the Ignatius program featuring a discussion of foreign affairs and his latest novel, The Quantum Spy, are available here. Thanks to the hotel’s culinary experts, our reception will feature special foods and drinks that perfectly accent a fun theme associated with India and Bollywood.
